Spring Sports Are Back!

2/24/2021

We're very encouraged by the constant flow of good news we're receiving.  Here are some of the highlights:
  • Covid cases continue to rapidly decline. Nevada Health & Human Services Officials are reporting that our cases today are at the lowest levels since mid-September and should be much lower by April.  This is great news!
  • The new Johnson & Johnson single dose vaccine is expected to be FDA approved on Friday.
  • NIAA (the governing body of all high school sports across Nevada) announced last week that they will be playing sports soon across the state.
  • CCSD Superintendent Dr. Jesus F. Jara announced this afternoon that they will begin allowing schools to participate in athletics.
  • NCSAA received board approval and Nevada Department of Business approval in late January to run a Spring Season.
We are so excited for all of our student-athletes across Nevada who will be able to play sports again this Spring.  We wanted to reach out to ask any schools who may have previously decided not to play this Spring to reconsider.  We'd love to still have you join our Spring Season.  You still have plenty of time.  For reference we do not start playing games for another 45 days.  Furthermore, we won't have our first cross country meet for another 54 days.  We have plenty of time to put together a game plan for your school to have tryouts and play.  We're here to help!

In addition, we want to make sure our staff is available to you and your staff to answer any questions you may have regarding returning to play, our protocols, or rules.  We'd be happy to do a zoom call with any school, staff, coaches, etc.  We're happy to go through everything start to finish.  We've done this already with about 20 schools.
We kindly ask that you forward this to any appropriate administrators and staff members that were not included on this email.

TENTATIVE SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL DATES
Feb. 1 - March 18 Individualized Virtual Meetings with each school
March 18  NCSAA Team Registration Deadline
March 26  National Sports ID & Roster Deadline
March 27  NCSAA Soccer & Volleyball Game Schedules Released
April 10  First Game
May 17-18 Makeup Games (for any games possibly cancelled due to covid/weather)
May 18 - 21 NCSAA Soccer (under the lights) & Volleyball Playoffs
May 22 Soccer Championship Games

UPDATED SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL FEE STRUCTURE
Schools will be charged $575 for all soccer and volleyball teams.  In the event we are forced to cancel the season for Covid-19 NCSAA will charge schools $125 for the first week and $90 for each game of the regular season thereafter.  NCSAA will credit host schools for actual games played as opposed to an hourly rate.  Those schools who have a credit on their account for Spring 2020 will automatically be applied to your Spring 2021 invoice.  Spring 21 Invoices will be emailed out towards the end of the Spring Season.  No money will be collected for Soccer, Volleyball, or Cross Country until later in the season to allow schools to get their monies together during this tough economic period.

REGISTERING YOUR SCHOOL FOR SOCCER & VOLLEYBALL
Registration will be open in early February (we will make an announcement). Each school will submit 1 online form for all of their teams.  You may change your mind, add, or drop teams as many times as you need up until the deadline without charge.  However, once the deadline passes your teams will appear on the game schedule and you will be billed the full amount -- even if you drop a team.  You don't have to submit names when registering your team -- just how many teams you will have.  It would be advantageous for you to have had all of your tryouts prior to March 19th though -- as the season will start a few weeks later.

You can register on our webpage at https://www.ncsaasports.com/

NATIONAL SPORTS ID CHANGES
Every NCSAA Student-Athlete needs a verified National Sports ID to compete in any or all sports/activities including but not limited to Soccer, Cross Country, and Track.  Under the circumstances, we will NOT require a sports physical for the 2020-2021 School Year.  We will return to physicals next school year.  Returning players with a National Sports ID account from the 2019-2020 School Year will just need to update any outdated information in the system, sign the new waiver, and renew their fee.  New players will have to These changes should make it extremely easy for returning players to get re-verified quickly.
1.      Headshot Photo – Similar to a Driver’s License or Student ID Photo.  This should be a close-up, clearly lit photo that shows the student-athlete’s entire face and hair looking directly at the camera.  No hats. No sunglasses.  This can be a recent school photo or one simply taken from your cell phone.
2.      Scan of Birth Certificate, State ID, or Passport

NCSAA has prepared health and safety guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), USA Soccer Federation Chief Medical Officer & Northwestern University medical physician Dr. George Chiampas, and other Federal government agencies. The knowledge surrounding COVID-19 is constantly changing and circumstances may warrant for changes throughout the season. Until COVID-19 is either eradicated, a vaccine is distributed, or a cure is found, there is no way to completely eliminate the risk of infection and as a result NCSAA strongly encourages all participants to follow these recommendations as safety precautions. The information is not intended or implied to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.  We will have a testing protocol for coaches that will be announced once we get closer to the season.

Before Taking Part in Activities:
• All Coaches and Game Officials must have a negative COVID-19 (NV State Law)
• Be symptom free for at least 14 days prior to any activity.
• Stay home if you are sick or do not feel well.
• Be aware of and disclose any potential contacts with affected individuals.
• Wash and sanitize your hands often.
• Ensure all equipment (cleats, ball, shin guards, practice bid/pinnies etc.) are sanitized before and after games/practice.
• Do not touch your face, eyes or mouth with unclean hands.
• Practice social distancing regularly.
• Wear a face mask to reduce exposure to airborne particles.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow if you cough or sneeze.
• Parents and Coaches should assess level of risk based on individual players on the team who may be at higher risk
for severe illness, such as children who may have asthma, diabetes, or other health problems.
• Schools are encouraged to conduct a daily temperature check of the player for low grade fever (>100.4°F) before playing.
• If a coach or student-athlete has tested positive for COVID-19, written confirmation of COVID-19 negative status and clearance
from your physician must be provided to the school and NCSAA for return to full participation in sport & activity.

During Games:
• All Coaches & Sideline staff must wear a mask at all times
• All players must wear a mask until game time.  They are not required to wear a mask while playing.  They are required to wear it prior to and after the game.
• Refrain from attending any activity if displaying any COVID-19 symptoms.
• Schools are encouraged to conduct a daily temperature check of the player for low grade fever (>100.4°F) before playing.
• NCSAA reserves the right to not allow spectators to attend games.
• Comply with all permissible regulations approved for the venue.
• Wash and sanitize your hands often.
• Do not touch your face, eyes or mouth with unclean hands.
• Refrain from having physical contact with other participants and attendees (no high fives, hugs, fist bumps, etc).
• Practice social distancing as often as possible.
• Participants will need to wear a face mask while at the venue prior to and after each game.
• Face coverings should be worn by coaches, youth sports staff, officials, parents, and spectators at all times. NCSAA reserves the right to ask those not complying to leave the premises immediately.  Babies and children younger than 2 years old are not expected to wear a mask.  Those with issues that may prevent you from wearing a mask are asked to refrain from attending for yours and others safety.
• Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow if you cough or sneeze.
• Properly dispose of your personal drinking cups, bottles, or utensils used in the trash cans.
• No sharing of water bottles, drinks, towels, cell phones, cleats, socks, shin guards, etc.
• Place equipment, bags, etc. at least 6 feet apart
• Each team will be responsible for sanitizing their game ball at each break when possible.
• Each team will be responsible for having their own hand sanitizer and sanitizing wipes. NCSAA and the Host Venue will not be providing these at the game site.
There will be no post-game handshakes.
• Teams and spectators will need to remain outside of the area of the game field until their game time.  If the game prior to yours is running late, you should remain as far away as possible.  NCSAA will try their best to spread out game times to avoid this when possible.
• Spectators (if permitted) will be expected to social distance. Those not living in the same household should remain at least 6 feet apart from each other and at least 6 feet from any side or end lines.
• Spectators should assess level of risk when deciding to attend a game or practice. Those who may be at higher risk for severe illness based on age or other health problems should refrain from attending.
• We strongly encourage all participants to wear gloves.  This will be at the discretion of each student-athlete and their parents.

NCSAA Coronavirus Update & Survey

3/24/2020

We wanted to give a quick update and then ask a favor.

Unfortunately, we have no real news to pass along.  Much like most of the country, we're waiting to see what the next steps are?  We will be following a couple things closely:
  1. When & if schools return to session - can we play a shortened season in a compact amount of time?
  2. If school returns is it responsible to play at all?
We don't have those answers today.  We probably won't have those answers for a few more weeks.  We are not going to speculate during that time though.  We'll let things play out and then reassess at that time.  A few parents may be emailing you asking for updates -- just explain that we don't have any.  I would not refund any money at this time -- as there is still a small chance we return and play.

NOW... for the favor...

Regardless of how the Spring Season unfolds we have to start planning for the 2020-2021 School Year.  In doing so we need to figure out what rules worked and what needs to be reworked.  This survey is a brief 4 question survey that should only take you a few minutes.  Every coach of any sport is welcome to submit answers.  The more feedback the better.  We will not take your answers personally or be offended by them.  We may, however, reach out at some point to ask for clarification or discuss.  We ask that you keep your answers to be about the written rules and not about the officials. We'd love a response by Tuesday, April 7th.

https://www.ncsaasports.com/rulesurvey.html

We would like to reiterate everyday preventive actions that should be taken:
  • Practice Social Distancing.
  • Assume you're infected already.  This is not a time to hangout with friends.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth.
  • Stay home when you are sick.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
  • If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water when hands are visibly dirty.

Basketball Madness

2/4/2020

Hi Everyone -
We have A LOT happening all at once so we wanted to send out an important update on everything.
  • Reminder: NCSAA stands for "Nevada Choice School Athletic Association" -- not "Nevada Charter School Athletic Association"  While NCSAA is primarily charter schools -- any choice school is welcome to participate if they follow our league guidelines.  The more we grow the more opportunities we can offer our schools and student-athletes.  We hope to continue to add sports and divisions for everyone each year.  We're headed in the right direction!!  The future is bright.
  • The Winter Competitive Basketball Regular Season ends THIS Saturday, February 8th.  Anyone who is not in the Top 8 will complete their season.
  • For those in the Top 8 for each division, we will release playoff brackets on Saturday Night, February 8th around 9pm.  Please refrain from emailing to ask about tie-breaker scenarios. It's important to remember and remind your parents that the online standings DO NOT correctly reflect tie-breakers.  It won't sort or factor in Head to Head or Points Allowed.  Therefore, you should not assume your team's seed or whether they're in or out until we can officially go through everything.
  • Everyone should expect to play a first round game sometime between Monday, February 10th - Thursday, February 13th.  We won't take any requests.  For those who advance, the Semifinals will be Wednesday, February 19th - Friday, February 21st.  Championship Games will be on Saturday, February 22nd at Slam Academy.
  • It's extremely important that you turn in your scores on Saturday as soon as your game is over.  We're asking EVERYONE to turn these in.  You can do so at https://www.ncsaasports.com/scores.html
  • If there is a score posted incorrectly from earlier this season you must let us know by tomorrow at 5pm or it will become the final score and not be changed (even if it's wrong).
  • Winter Recreational Basketball will play their final games on Saturday, February 22nd.  Please make sure you don't forget about those games.
  • We are having a blast with Winter Bowling!  We have 2 meets remaining
    • Monday, February 10th at Red Rock Lanes
    • Championships - Monday, February 24th at Santa Fe Bowling Center
  • Spring Coaches Meeting
    • Tuesday, February 18th at 6PM
    • Somerset Academy North Las Vegas
    • We will discuss Soccer, Boy's Volleyball, and Track Rules
  • All Student-Athletes will need a National Sports ID. Anyone who played in Fall or Winter should be good to go.
  • We are LOWERING our Track Fees.  Initially, we had announced $10/per student-athlete per event.  We reviewed this a second time.  It's now been dropped to $8/per student-athlete per event.
  • Please email us sports@ncsaasports.com so we know what sports you're considering so he can setup your team for you in National Sports ID.  Please do not setup your own teams.  Most who have done so have set them up incorrectly.
  • Final Deadline to Add or Drop Teams is Friday, February 21st at 6PM.  After this date, your team will appear on the game schedule and your school will be charged -- even if you drop your team.
  • Game Schedules will be released on Saturday, February 29th at 6PM.
  • Roster Deadline on NSID is March 4.
  • Common Questions we're getting about Spring Season:
    • QUESTION: "Can girl's play on our boy's volleyball or soccer team?"
      • Answer: Yes.  Girl's can always play on our boy's teams.  Boy's are never allowed to play on the Girl's teams.
    • QUESTION: "Will we have K-2 Soccer or K-1 & 1-2 Soccer like last year?"
      • Answer: We will offer 2 different divisions (like last year).  We will have a K-1 & 1-2 Division. You're welcome to move everyone up and play 1-2 if you have low participation.
    • QUESTION: "Will we have weeknight soccer games?"
      • Answer: We'd like to avoid that.  If we do, it will be minimal.  We'd like the majority of your games for both soccer and volleyball to be on Saturday's.  IF we do have a weeknight game, it will NEVER be on a Monday Night.
    • QUESTION: "Will you be doing relay races in Track?"
      • Answer: No.  We had to make some tough decisions due to the high demand of the sport.  We're looking at options to bring in back next year but relays WILL NOT be part of our track program this school year.

*IN ORDER TO SCORE IN THE HIGH RANGE SKILLS MUST BE PERFORMED BY MOST ATHLETES.  EXAMPLE: TEAM 1 HAS MOST BACKWALKOVERS BUT TEAM 2 PERFORM BACKHANDSPRINGS NOT BY MOST, TEAM 1 WILL SCORE IN THE HIGH RANGE BECAUSE MOST ATHLETES PERFORMED THE “DIFFICULT” SKILL.  SEE ATTACHED QUANTITY CHARTS.

NOVICE Division:
TUMBLING
 • Standing tumbling: limited in difficulty to a single standing back handspring.  Jump/handspring combinations and series handsprings are not allowed.  For example, standing tucks and/or aerials are not allowed.
• Standing tumbling is defined as any tumbling skill not originating from a cartwheel or round-off.
• Running tumbling: limited in difficulty to front and/or back handspring series. Skills including, but not limited to, the following are not permitted: flips (tucks), aerials, punch fronts, etc.
• Running tumbling is defined as tumbling that involves a forward step or a hurdle used to gain momentum as an entry to a tumbling skill.
STUNTS
1. Extended stunts are limited to both feet in the base(s) hands at all times. Both of the top person’s feet must be held throughout the entire transition to/from the extended position. Exception: Straight bump-down dismounts are allowed as part of a pyramid dismount.
2. Single leg stunts may not be held or pass through an extended position.
3. Twisting stunt transitions are limited to a ½ twist. Exception: A single full twisting log/barrel roll is allowed as long as it starts and ends in a cradle position, does not involve any skill other than the twist, and is not assisted by and/or connected to another top person.
4. All release moves must land in a cradle.
5. The only stunt inversions allowed are:
a. Transitions from ground level inversions up to non-inverted positions. Example: Going from a handstand on the ground to a non-inverted stunt such as a shoulder sit is allowed.
b. Suspended forward rolls where two people on the performing surface control the top person in a suspended forward roll with continuous hand-to-hand contact to a stunt, two person cradle, loading position, or the performing surface. If caught in a cradle, load, or stunt, the new catchers must be in place and may not be involved in any other skill when the suspended forward roll is initiated. During the roll, the feet of the top person must be released.
c. Dismounts to the performing surface from waist level stunts. Example: Waist level prone to forward roll dismount or cradle position to back walkover dismount.
 PYRAMIDS
1. All single leg extended stunts must be braced by two top persons at prep level or lower. The braced connection must be established at prep level or lower before the stunt passes into the extended level, and constant contact between the top person and the bracers must be maintained while the top person is on one leg above prep level. 2. Any time a top person is released by bases during a pyramid transition, the top person must be braced by two top persons at prep level or below with hand-arm connection only and constant contact between the top person and the bracers must be maintained throughout the transition.
3. Twisting pyramid transitions are limited to a ½ twist.
4. Pyramid inversions are not allowed. DISMOUNTS “Dismount” is defined as the movement of a top person from a stunt and/or pyramid to a cradle position or to the performing surface. • Only straight pop downs/bump downs, basic straight cradles, ¼ turn dismounts, and dismounts from waist level inversions are allowed. All other dismounts are prohibited.

2. 11/21/2019

RULE CHANGES ADOPTED AT THE 11/19/19 WINTER BASKETBALL MEETING

  • Recreational Divisions: the group voted to remove gender restrictions regarding the minimum number of females that must be on the court at all times.  Now a Recreational Coed team can legally be made up of either gender or even all boys and there are no restrictions to who has to be on the court at any given time.  However, in Recreational Sports it is still encouraged that all kids on your roster play at least 50% of the game (when possible)
  • Competitive Divisions: the group voted to keep the same tie-breakers utilized in the Fall Season when 2 teams are tied for one place (with Head to Head being utilized first).  When 3 or more teams are tied for one place we will stick to the revised tie-breakers of using Total Points Allowed during league play.  The new Tie Breakers are:
    • 2 teams tied for one place:
      • a. Head to head score,
      • b. Total points allowed during league play,
      • c. Point differential (total points scored – total point allowed),
      • d. Coin toss
    • 3 or more teams tied for one place
      • a. Total points allowed during league play,
      • b. Head to head score,
      • c. Point differential (total points scored – total points allowed),
      • d. Total points scored,
      • e. Draw for seed (1-2-3-4 etc)
  • Competitive Divisions: the group voted to have all technical fouls be 2 free throws as opposed to just awarding 2 points automatically.
  • Recreational Rules (Grades: K-2, 3-5) can be found at:  https://www.ncsaasports.com/uploads/2/2/5/4/22548286/ncsaa_rec_basketball_rules.pdf
  • Competitive Rules (Grades 3-5, Middle School JV & Varsity) can be found:  https://www.ncsaasports.com/uploads/2/2/5/4/22548286/ncsaa_competitive_hoop_rules_.pdf
REMINDER: TOMORROW, Friday, November 22nd at 6PM is the DEADLINE to register team or make any revisions to those teams. Teams will be on the schedule as of 6pm Tomorrow and your school will be billed.  We will not make any changes after that point.  Game Schedules will be released at 6PM on December 1st.

REMINDER: Don't setup your own teams in National Sports ID. NCSAA will setup your National Sports ID Teams for you this season.  We've had a few schools create their own teams incorrectly and this could cause issues later.  This is how teams show as verified without physicals and waivers.  A few schools did this incorrectly this Fall and had issues. We've made the process even easier, you just have to tell us what you need.  Once you fill out your Winter Basketball Team Registration online at https://www.ncsaasports.com/basketballregistration.html we will build your team and add you as the Head Coach.  You then add players by simply searching for returning player from Fall or send a personalized email link to those who didn't play in the Fall to join NSID.   Returning players don't have to do anything.  New players will have to do the entire process.  You may re-submit your Basketball Registration as many times as you need until November 22 at 6PM.  The earlier the better for our planning and for you to get started on the process. If you have already made your own teams make sure you add "Melanie Mark" as coaches so we can fix your settings and avoid issues.

NCSAA August 16th Update: "We've only just begun..." Edition

8/16/2019

Hi Everyone -

We held off on sending out any updates the first week of school.   Hopefully, everyone has made it out in one piece.    Here are some updates and reminders I wanted to pass along...

1.) Each school needs to do 2 things in order to register to play this Fall.  First, we need you to go to our website and submit your team registration (if you haven’t done so yet) at https://www.ncsaasports.com/register.html  You may make adjustments to this registration until Friday, August 30th at 6pm.  If you need to make a change, simply re-submit the form.  The earlier the better.  Second, we need you to setup your teams in National Sports ID.

2.) National Sports ID is required for ALL student-athletes -- regardless of the age or sport.  Everyone must be fully approved by September 11.  Physicals are required for ALL student-athletes (K-8).  They have an incredibly helpful chat for support in the bottom left of every page.  If you run into an issue please use their chat or email admin@nationalsportsid.com.  I prefer you go through them as they're the experts on the software.  There is a duplicate roster feature that makes life easy once you setup your first team.  Please remember to include your school's full name, division, and sport in the name.  For instance "Pinecrest Cadence JV Girl's Volleyball" as opposed to "Cougars Athletics" or "PCC"

As a quick review, here are the things parents will need in order to complete the National Sports ID:
  1. Birth Certificate - if they lost theirs for any reason, the school probably has one on file
  2. Headshot Photo - should be a close up headshot (without a hat or sunglasses on).  Similar to a Driver’s License.  Have them take a clear photo of their child with their cell phone or use a clear photo of their face.
  3. Proof of Grade Level  – this can be last year’s report card, this year’s class schedule, a screen shot of Infinite Campus.  Just make sure the child’s name, school, and grade are clearly showing.
  4. Physical - They may use our 1 page form located at https://www.ncsaasports.com/physicals.html. A Note from the Doctor clearing them to play is also accepted.  Note: NIAA uses a multiple page form.  We are not requiring those additional pages since those pages are intended for tackle football players.

3.) Baseball - reminder that there are 2 divisions:  K-1st Grade T-Ball & 2nd-3rd Grade Coach Pitch Baseball.  You're welcome to move your little guys up to play in the 2nd & 3rd Grade Coach Pitch if you don't have enough players.  We strongly suggest keeping these rosters around 10-12 kids in order to try to get 3 at-bats in. However, you can have up to 15 if you really needed to.  It may mean only getting 2 at-bats though.

4.) Flag Football - Once you register your teams through http://www.ncsaasports.com/register I will bring you 14 brand new triple threat flags (per team) for you to keep.  Flag Playoff Dates will be: November 12-15 (at various sites under the lights) with our Championships being on November 16th at Pinecrest Sloan Canyon.  The top 8 teams from each competitive division will make the playoffs. Playoff Brackets & Flag Football Rules are now online at https://www.ncsaasports.com/flag.html

5.) Volleyball - Rules are available on our website.  Volleyball Playoffs will be: 1st Round Nov. 4-6 (various sites), Semi-finals Nov. 7-8 at Vegas Aces Volleyball Club Facility in Henderson, Championships on Saturday, November 9th (Location TBD - will be same location as Cheerleading Competition). Brackets & Rules can be found at https://www.ncsaasports.com/girlsvolleyball.html

6.) Playoff Seeding Tiebreakers for Flag Football & Volleyball:
     1) Head to Head
     2) Points/Sets Against (PA in Standings)
     3) Schedule Strength (Opponents W/L)
     4) Coin Toss

6.) Our Google Calendar was showing up for some as "free/busy" but didn't display the information to all.  That has been fixed.  Now it’s easier than ever to sync our NCSAA Calendar to your Google Calendar.  This includes all of our deadlines for NCSAA for the entire 2019 – 2020 School Year and gets updated in real time by us. https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=sports%40ncsaasports.com&ctz=America%2FLos_Angeles  You can also sync our calendar to your iCal: https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/sports%40ncsaasports.com/public/basic.ics Lastly, all of our deadlines and important dates are available in the Events Section of our @NCSAASports Facebook Page.

7.) Cross Country
Meet Locations Finalized:
Event #1 - Monday Night, September 9th - Cornerstone Park
Event #2 - Monday Night, September 16th - Craig Ranch Park
Event #3 - Monday Night, September 23rd - Sunset Park
Event #4 - Monday Night, September 30th - Kellogg Zaher Park
Event #5 - Monday Night, October 7th - Exploration Peak Park
Championships/Event #6 - Monday Night, October 21 - Desert Breeze Park
*There are no qualifiers for Championships.  Everyone will be eligible to compete.

We need Parent Volunteers to help mark the course during each meet.  If you could have a few parents that are willing to wear a vest for us and stand on the course to help guide runners we would appreciate it.

VERY IMPORTANT: Due to the way Athletic.net is setup... if you're trying to register an Elementary Team... Register them as Middle School... then put them on their own separate team ... select their grades correctly.  That will put them on a team together and we'll pull them as an elementary school team.

8.) Fall AD Meeting on Monday Night, August 26th from 6-8pm at Mater Bonanza (4760 E Bonanza Rd, Las Vegas, NV 89110).  You may bring as many coaches as you’d like to the meeting.  Guests that will be present:
  • John Dixon from NTS Timing there to talk about Cross Country & Athletic.net
  • Preston Clipper from the Southern Nevada Officials Association & Sin City Referees to talk about Flag Football Rules
  • The Head of our Volleyball Officials Association
Please remember with a lot of people in the room there may be a lot of questions about rules. We WILL NOT be changing any rules at this meeting.  The rules are set for the Fall Season.  This meeting is for rules interpretations only.  This is a chance for you to ask questions.  Please remember that these officials did not run last season of Flag Football.

August 5 Update (Back to School Edition)

8/5/2019

A couple things we wanted to pass along before school starts.

1.) We are making a small scheduling adjustment for all of our competitive divisions. We will now schedule 8 games for everyone. Those who make the playoffs will continue to play. Those who don’t make the playoffs will end their season after the 8th game. This will allow for teams to be able to plan better for their games.
2.) We have flags for you! Once you have officially registered at https://www.ncsaasports.com/register.htmlwe will bring you 14 brand new Triple Threat Flags to use for games and practices (per registered team).
3.) REMINDER: If your school has a balance, we will not allow your teams to play this Fall. We have a few schools that still need to pay their bill from last school year. We need to try to get those paid right away.
4.) We emailed all of our school a step-by-step guide to setting up your teams in National Sports ID. It also shows you how to directly invite parents to register directly for your team. If you still need this guide, it's available for download below or you can email us. We’d be happy to send to you. You should have all of your teams setup in our system by the end of this week.
a. Remember to use your school’s full name and division when setting up each team. Instead of making it “Wildcat Football” it should be something like “Somerset Lone Mountain Elem Comp Flag”
b. Don’t forget to add in your Assistant Coaches.
c. If you need help with the National Sports ID process at any point in the bottom left of the NSID page is a Live Chat feature. They are there to help you. You may also email then at admin@nationalsportsid.com
d. Remember the deadline to have all of your student-athletes approved in National Sports ID is Wednesday, September 11.

https://calendar.google.com/calendar/embed?src=sports%40ncsaasports.com&ctz=America%2FLos_Angeles

You can also sync our calendar to your iCal:
https://calendar.google.com/calendar/ical/sports%40ncsaasports.com/public/basic.ics

HOW TO SIGN YOUR TEAM UP FOR NCSAA’s FALL SEASON
  1. Go to: https://www.ncsaasports.com/register.html
  2. Completely fill out the online registration form by Friday, August 30th at 6PM.  NCSAA will not accept any late registrations after this deadline.
  3. Any attempt to drop your team after the deadline will result in your school still being charged the full registration amount for the season and your team will remain on the game schedule (regardless of whether we have played any games yet).  NO EXCEPTIONS!!
  4. This form is only to sign up for Fall T-Ball/Baseball, Flag Football, and/or Volleyball.  Cross Country, Cheerleading will have separate registration processes.

NATIONAL SPORTS ID
Say goodbye to bringing your team’s photo roster each week to NCSAA game sites!  We’ve heard your roster complaints and understand how frustrating the process was last season.  Now, every NCSAA student-athlete is required to certify on National Sports ID and complete all the steps before being eligible to play.  Once they have certified they’re clear for the next 365 days.

There is a link on our website or you can send them to: https://www.nationalsportsid.com/ncsaa-fall-sports-age-verification/

National Sports ID makes it easy for you to create a coach account, for parents or you to submit the documents and for NSID to view and verify them. Once approved players will receive a verified Sports ID stating their age and grade, which can be viewed on any device.

Please take a few minutes and create a coach account, create your team and invite your players to get verified Sports ID’s. You can also view a sample verified team ID, a players verified sports ID or some frequently asked questions by clicking any of the buttons below.
National Sports ID Requirements to be completed and approved by September 11th at 6pm:
  1. Headshot Photo – This is similar to a Driver’s License or Student ID Photo.
  3. Proof of Grade – This can be your most recent report card, most recent School ID, school schedule showing your child’s grade, screen shot of Online Account (i.e. Infinite Campus) proving grade level, etc.
  4. Proof of Physical – Physicals are mandatory this season. You may provide a Doctor’s Note or use the NCSAA Form available for download at https://www.ncsaasports.com/physicals.html Either is acceptable.
  5. E-Sign NCSAA Participant Waivers
  6. Pay $10 National Sports ID fee per student-athlete

FALL GAME RULES, RULE CHANGES, and POINTS OF EMPHASIS
All of our Fall Game Rules have been updated on our website at ncsaasports.com    Rules for Winter & Spring Sports are still under review and will be updated by August 1. NCSAA reviewed all of your suggestions emailed to us for our Fall Sports.  We are no longer taking suggestions for rule changes in the 2019-2020 School Year. There were no major changes made.  However, here are a few minor changes we’ve put into place:

ALL SPORTS
  1. For ALL Competitive Sports
    • Divisions of 8 Teams or Less – everyone will make the playoffs
    • Divisions of 9 or more teams – 8 teams will make the playoffs.  All other teams will receive 1 consolation game against a like opponent that also didn’t make the playoffs (with a similar record) to end their season.
    • There will not be a consolation playoff bracket (Silver & Bronze Bracket)
  2. Student-athletes may only play on 1 team/division per sport.  However, a student-athlete can continue to take part in as many different sports/activities as they’d like.
  3. All student-athletes are required to have a National Sports ID for ALL NCSAA sports/activities. The approval process includes having a sports physical submitted. (see NSID section)
  4. This is not a change, but more of a point of emphasis: there is no such thing as playing a game “under protest” or having a game be “under review” over a call by a game official.  The Official’s decision is final on the field.  NCSAA will only review an official’s performance/behavior for future education or assignments of the official.  We will not reverse or overturn any calls.
FLAG FOOTBALL
  1. Projected Flag Football Playoff Schedule (Subject to Change):
    • 1st Round Games: Saturday, November 9th
    • Semi-Final Games: November 12 – 14
    • Championship Games: Saturday, November 16
  2. Overtime Rules Changed to be similar to last year’s playoff rules. Here are the OT procedure’s now (Section 6 (page 7 of rules)
    1. If the score is tied at the end of 40 minutes, an overtime period will be used to determine a winner. Overtime format is as follows:
      • A coin toss will determine the team that chooses to be on offense or defense first.
      • Each team will have one set of downs from the 10-yard line to attempt to score a touchdown.
      • The team with the most points after each team has had a possession will be declared the winner.
      • If a third overtime is needed, both teams will be required to attempt a 2-point PAT after a score.
      • These formats will be repeated until a clear winner is declared.
      • All regulation period rules and penalties are in effect.
      • There are no timeouts.
3. Mercy Rule increased to 35 points (from 28).
4. NCSAA will provide flags for each team.

VOLLEYBALL
  1. Projected Volleyball Playoff Schedule (subject to change)
    • 1st Round Games: Monday, November 4 & Tuesday, November 5
    • Semi-Final Games: Wednesday, November 6 & Thursday, November 7
    • Championship Games: Saturday, November 9
  2. Rec. Coed Volleyball (Grades 3-5): Maximum number of boys allowed on the court increased to 3 (from 2).  However, a team is allowed to be made up of all girls.
  3. No High School Girl’s Volleyball will be offered this Fall.
  4. There will no longer be a game time limit for competitive divisions, however the serve time limit will be heavily enforced to keep the game moving.
T-BALL / COACH PITCH BASEBALL
  1. Expanded our offerings to now include 2 separate divisions: T-Ball (Grades: K-1) and Coach Pitch Baseball (Grades: 2-3).
  2. A reminder: Student-Athletes are always welcome to play up in age divisions.
  3. NCSAA will continue to add a new age group every Fall Season.
